Teaching Scottish Country Dancing

Scottish Country Dance is challenging both to teach and to perform. The Royal Scottish Country
Dance Society (RSCDS) is the official organization which certifies SCD teachers. Those who become
certified instructors go through a rigorous testing process, consisting of a preliminary exam
followed by a qualifying exam. These can be quite stressful for the candidates. In the interest of
easing this stress somewhat by aiding the candidates to be more prepared, Bob Blair and his wife
have collected questions from both the preliminary exams and the qualifying exams. Sample questions
from each exam have been placed in these files.

Scottish country dancing can be hard on the body. Leg and foot strains and injuries can occur if
care is not taken. The following two articles were published in The Ghillies Gazette, the
newsletter of the Austin Scottish Country Dance Society. They deal with two types of injuries
common to Scottish country dancers -- what causes them, how to avoid them, and what to do if they
happen to you.
